Hi Program Advisors!
A few Oregon Fuel Up to Play 60 schools have inquired about novel ideas to highlight certain food groups during lunch time at school. The Milk Mustache Booth is a great way to highlight dairy and engage students of all ages.
The Milk Mustache Booth comes with paper picture frames, stick-on milk mustaches (white, chocolate, and strawberry), Got Milk? cups, a large Got Milk? poster and 3 celebrity milk posters.
Your job – recognize students drinking milk with their lunch, take pictures of your students with a milk mustache, and post their pictures on the cafeteria wall! It’s fun, quick, and easy.
Contact me at caras@oregondairycouncil.org for a free Milk Mustache Booth for your school.

Are you thinking about Fuel Up to Play 60 in your school? Already involved and want to share/hear ideas from other schools? Need technical support?
These are all great reasons to join me! I am organizing a Fuel Up to Play 60 meet/share/learn meeting for all program advisors, supporters, and interested parties to get together and talk FUTP60!
A casual, open discussion is what I’m envisioning with some specific topics to cover. Hot topics/questions include:
- “Play” ideas
- What are other schools doing?
- How can I spend grant dollars?
- What does a winning grant application look like?
- How to develop a student team
- Milk promotion ideas (ie: milk mustache booth)
- Credible nutrition sources
- Ways to expand existing plans/ideas
- + more!
I’m aiming to hold the meeting during the first couple weeks in January! Specific date & location TBD. Email me and let me know you’re interested or to get more information.
Looking forward to seeing you there (or conference calling with you if you live too far away to join us in person!) Happy holidays!

Milk Carton Design Contest Celebrates World School Milk Day
Oregon residents can win a year’s supply of milk
Oregon students and parents can create a milk carton design from now through Oct. 14 for a chance to win a year’s supply of milk.
Oregon Dairy Council is holding the contest in celebration of World School Milk Day on Sept. 28. It is one day when the international community can focus on the importance of drinking milk at school and milk’s health benefits for growing children.
The contest is simple, visit School Milk: All Kinds of Good Facebook page to enter a creative milk carton design and learn more about the healthy benefits of milk. The design should include something about your local school and also highlight why school milk is all kinds of good.
The winner will receive a year’s supply of milk for their family. That’s two gallons of milk a week at an estimated value of $350. Oregon Dairy Council will announce the winner on Oct. 18 on the Facebook page School Milk: All Kinds of Good.
“Milk is a high-protein, nutrient-rich beverage that provides essential nutrients for growth and development in students here in Oregon, across the nation and abroad,” says Diane Stadler, PhD, RD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at OHSU and volunteer team leader with the Tigard-based Medical Teams International for nutrition enhancement programs in Honduras. “Milk is the number one food source for three of four nutrients, critical for health and wellness, the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans says students and adults need more of — vitamin D, calcium and potassium.”
World School Milk Day was started in 2000 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. More than 40 countries around the world celebrate the health and nutritional benefits of milk on the last Wednesday in Sept. each year.
